Local Construction Industry’s Response to Climate Change at the Green Forum 2010 at MANILACON

Innovating and sharing ideas on green technologies and expertise matter a lot in providing sustainable solutions for the built environment, says Green Architecture Advocacy Philippines (Green AP) Chairman Ega Reformado.

Green AP together with L.A. Ducut and Company, Inc. (LADCI) is all set for the holding of the Green Forum 2010 on September 3 to 4 at the SMX Convention Center at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City. Themed “Green Extremes: Master Planning to Neighborhood Developments,” the Green Forum 2010 is a twin event of the annual Construction Show Manila (MANILACON).

The country’s premier building and construction trade exhibit on innovations and sustainability, MANILACON brings together construction industry experts, urban planners and architects to share their insights on sustainable built environment and technologies. MANILACON 2010 also features the latest trends and developments in products, new markets and sustainable building solutions.

“We believe in corporate social responsibility defined as the deliberate inclusion of public interest into corporate decision-making and the honoring of a triple bottom line: People, Planet, Profit.” shares Lilibeth D. Abais, managing director of LADCI. “The Green Forum at MANILACON is our contribution to transforming the market into a more environmentally conscious one.”

This year, the Green Forum takes an in depth look at how sustainability at the grassroots level is hinged on large scale urban planning. “Environmental problems solved at the grassroots, at homes and baranggays, contribute to solving the larger global environmental problems we face,” explains Reformado. “In the same manner, the green urban planning of the towns, municipalities, cities and country support the green strategies attempted at the lower level.”

The Green Forum 2010 brings together the country’s top urban planners, industry experts and prominent architects. “The Green Forum centers on tackling issues and strategies on sustainable communities,” says Abais. “Exchanging information is vital to improving and applying best practices in sustainability.”

Award-winning urban planner Architect Nathaniel von Einsiedel will speak on effective and environmentally-friendly urban planning. Architect Anna Maria M. Gonzales and Bayawan City Mayor Mayor Rene G. Gaudiel will tackle disaster-resilient developments, environmental management and disaster preparedness.

Other speakers include former Department of Environment and Natural Resources Undersecretary Mr. Elmer S. Mercado, Davis Langdon & Seah (DLS) Senior Environmental Consultant N.Mark Evans, Philippine Star columnist and BluPrint Magazine Editor in Chief Architect Paulo Alcazaren and Ms. Lilia GC Casanova of Center for Advanced Philippine Studies (CAPS).

Joining them will be award-winning environmental planner and heritage preservation expert, Arch. Maria Lourdez Joy Martinez, whose list of achievements include a US Senatorial Award , for her contribution to the perpetuation and preservation of Chamorro culture and history in the Marianas Islands and a Environment Responsible Entrepreneur Award from the Cebu Chamber of Commerce for her work on Cebu’s premier resort, Plantation Bay. Martinez has also been awarded the Most Outstanding Individual for Community Service during the Cebu City Charter Day Awards for heritage conservation in revitalizing the old downtown of Cebu.

Green Chat, a round table discussion on current industry issues for trade professionals and the 2nd Green Archi Students Symposium will also be held during MANILACON. For more information, please log on to http://www.manilacon.com or call 873-8202; 873-9047 and 873-8876 or email info@laducut.com.

ManilaCon hosts 2nd Green Architecture Student Symposium

The country’s premier building and construction trade exhibit on innovations and sustainability brings to the youth its advocacy of promoting green architecture through “the 2nd  Green Architecture Student Symposium.”

The symposium, which is one of the highlights of the Construction Show Manila (MANILACON),  will be held on September 5, 2010, from 10:00AM to 12:00NN at the SMX Convention Center at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.

To be presented by Architect Miguel Guerrero, the event will help students conceptualize, organize, design and present green thesis or design plate.

The lecture entitled “Thesis and Design Plates: Green Strategies and Concepts” will tackle the elements of a good green thesis or design plate from conceptualizing design plate, site planning, building design, utilities, materials and cutting edge green technologies.

Architect Guerrero is a member of the College of Fellows of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) and one of the first twelve (12) APEC Architects in the Philippines.  He has also joined the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and is active in Green Architecture advocacies.

According to ManilaCon organizer Lilibeth Ducut-Abais of L.A. Ducut and Company, Inc., the symposium aims to give students a good overview of green and and sustainable approaches to design to serve as guide for further research on a specific design problems.

“With the current popularity of green and sustainable architecture, many thesis and design plates in architectural schools all over the Philippines need to incorporate green strategies and concepts.  Data on green design abound in the internet, but this data can easily turn into information overload, ” adds Ms. Abais.

Organized by L.A. Ducut and Company, Inc. (LADCI) in partnership with the Green Architecture Advocacy Philippines, Inc. (Green AP), MANILACON 2010 features the latest trends and developments in products, new markets and sustainable building solutions.

The Green Forum is a joint effort of Green AP and LADCI.  It is a venue for local and the international practitioners of green and sustainable building design to share their best practices, knowledge and experiences. The event will be held on September 3 to 4 at the SMX Convention Center.
